What is Physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy is a form of therapy often used to promote people's physical and mental wellbeing. Physiotherapists are qualified and registered healthcare professionals who are trained in using a number of skills to prevent and manage a multitude of different conditions that may affect the body's ability to move and perform. Physiotherapists will often use exercise therapy, manual therapy, education and advice to tackle problems that may arise from acute injuries, long term disabilities, painful conditions or operations. There are a number or other adjuncts that be of assistance in some case such as electrotherapy, taping and acupuncture. A holistic approach is often taken to ensure that those who seek physiotherapy are fully engaged in their care and are encouraged to take charge of their own health. There are a number of different specialist fields within physiotherapy that will have a bigger focus on different body parts or body systems.

Is Physiotherapy for me?

If you are struggling with a recurrent or persistent painful condition, have recently had an injury, are struggling with physical lifestyle changes or would simply like to get fitter and prevent an injury, or return to sport, a Physiotherapist will be able to discuss your concerns with you and advise you accordingly with an appropriate treatment plan.

Physiotherapy in Kensington, Hammersmith and Paddington

We believe what really sets us apart from other clinics is the dedication of all of our physiotherapists to restoring normal function and movement patterns, thereby preventing future recurrences and generally helping you inhabit your body more comfortably.

We use an integrated, evidence based approach comprising manual therapy and rehabilitation programmes, which may include soft tissue massage, mobilisation or manipulation of joints, acupuncture, taping and electrotherapy. Rehabilitation comprises the teaching of specific exercises and postural re-education with the help of video analysis to restore balance to the body, alleviate pain and prevent problems recurring in the future.

Common problems we treat:

  • Back & neck pain
  • Knee, hip, ankle and foot problems
  • Shoulder problems (impingement, instability, rotator cuff tears)
  • Sports injuries, strains and sprains
  • Postural problems & work related pain
  • Joint pain
  • Pre and post-operative recovery and rehabilitation
  • Headaches & migraines

The majority of our physiotherapists hold post-graduate and Clinical Pilates qualifications, all have years of experience and some also lecture at Masters level in London universities. We work with many of the highly regarded Orthopaedic and Spinal Consultants in Central and West London, as well as liaising closely with local GPs.

What to expect from physiotherapy

On your first visit your physiotherapist will take a thorough medical history from you and fully assess your problem. They will decide with you on the appropriate course of treatment including goal setting and time scales.

Your physiotherapist will then work closely with you to achieve a resolution to your problem because we believe the best results are achieved when you take an active role in your recovery and rehabilitation.
